Modern defence and security operations demand faster decision cycles, higher detection accuracy, and reliable intelligence across increasingly complex operational environments. Hyperspectral imaging adds a critical layer of capability to ISR workflows by enabling detection and identification based on material properties rather than visual appearance or thermal contrast alone. This provides enhanced situational awareness across air, land, maritime, and space domains.

For over 25 years, Norsk Elektro Optikk (NEO) has contributed to hyperspectral military projects worldwide. HySpex cameras can be deployed on UAVs, manned aircraft, ROVs, and fixed installations, operating in harsh environments from Arctic to desert conditions. With payload weights below 2 kg, our systems are optimized for size- and weight-constrained platforms across UAV, airborne, stratospheric, and space-based missions.

HySpex offers a real-time framework for anomaly and signature-based detection requiring no preloaded data, ground control points (GCPs), or reflectance targets. When paired with LiDAR, RGB photogrammetry, or a DEM/DSM, the system generates and visualizes true 3D target meshes. Each pixel is geo-referenced in a hypermesh, enabling real-time algorithm execution and visualization directly within the operational workflow.

In GPS-denied environments, the system can operate autonomously using its internal IMU integrated with radio and communication systems. Ground stations connected via SAT link or 5G enable secure, real-time monitoring from remote command locations anywhere in the world — supporting distributed operations and rapid decision-making.

HySpex Bifrost, our next-generation real-time hyperspectral processing and 3D hypermesh visualization software delivers actionable intelligence in real time. The software enables onboard anomaly detection and rapid visualization of spectral indicators, as demonstrated in UAV-based real-time deployments. From sensor to insight, HySpex provides an integrated ISR solution designed for operational readiness.
